Why “Move & Shake”?

Because this isn’t about sitting still.
It’s about:

• Moving beyond traditional language learning into real-world communication.

• Shaking off fear and perfectionism and finding your voice.

• Moving between cultures with curiosity.

• Shaking up your routine and learning with meaning.

Our Ethos

I believe:

• English is a bridge, not just a skill.

• Language learning is about people, stories and shared experiences.

• Everyone deserves a space to feel seen, supported and challenged.

• Culture and communication go hand in hand.

The inspiration for the name

What was the inspiration for the name, Move & Shake Your English?

In 2024 in our courses, we were looking at inspirational people; people who shake or shook the world (do/did something significant that affected the whole world).

While reflecting on the amazing, inspiring people I have met through teaching English (yes, that includes YOU!!), I felt a deep connection with this topic.

The reason is I realised that WE CAN ALL SHAKE THE WORLD in our own particular and unique way, at our own pace.

It doesn’t need to be big, gigantic, earthquake-size shakes. It can be little, powerful moves; but equally important. This is how I feel about our English journey. It is a tool to help us to connect, share, dream, grow, enrich, explore, influence and shake the world, shake our own world.

Also, we have an idiom, “Movers and Shakers”

Have you ever heard this before?

IDIOM MEANING: People who have an influence and are active to bring about change or progress

In my research of the idiom “Movers and Shakers”, I came across its origin. It actually moved me and reaffirmed my choice of the name.

“Ode” is a poem written by the English poet Arthur O’Shaughnessy and first published in 1873.

“We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.”
